John Wang – Wolters Kluwer

Describe your relevant work history, awards, and accomplishments in 300 words or less.

Proud USF Graduate, Go Bulls! After graduating from USF, went off to work at one of the big 4 financial services firm as a full-stack developer. During my time there, successfully lead and migrated our legacy source control system to a new platform. Also, mentored summer interns and other college graduates by giving them perpsective on how to manage their careers in tech, finance or anything else. Lastly, built a new framework for streamlining our backend services codebase.

In my current role at Wolters Kluwer, I am a backend developer on our TeamMate+ application. Expanded our community involvement from being a sponsor of single event annually to sponsor multiple events annually in the Tampa Bay area. At one time, we hosted a few meetups on a regular basis.
I am organizer of a few monthly events at work such as lunch & learn, where this is an open forum for developers to share anything tech related.

What do you love about the Tampa Bay area?

The booming tech community in the Tampa Bay area. There is a meetup for almost anything from UX, Mobile, AI, IoT and etc.

What are some of your favorite things to do around town when you aren’t working?

  • Keeping up with the latest trends of new technologies by:
    1. being a regular at various meetups and events.
    2. tinkering around with new technologies.
  • ┬áReading books and blogs about new technologies and other stuff.

How do you give your time back in the community?

Speaking regularly at the various events and meetups about cloud technologies in IoT and BIg Compute space. Also, supporting our local meetups by attending various meetups on monthly basis and volunteering at local events. Lastly, honored to part of Emerging Tech Leaders of Tampa Bay leadership team on making Tampa Bay a major tech hub in the Southeast.

Tell us about the tech project that you are most proud of.

Passionate about sharing new things I learned as a regular speaker at various events and meetups since the community has helped me so much to expand my skillset and ability to connect with so many cool people. You would be amazed on how many people are so open and willingly to share their expertise.
